The formative years were a blur of playing doctor, Star Wars, and Space Invaders. That turned into spin the bottle, Robotech, and Super-Mario Brothers. Luckily, somewhere in there, my big brother turned me onto the beautiful world of comic books. Comics, animation, and film set my mind on a narrative visual track. Later, college exposed me to an extensive array of self-expression. Now, my education merges with my passion. My art’s all about storytelling. Some stories reveal themselves like never-ending novels and other stories pop like a pinched nipple or a whiff of perfume. I am just as concerned with exploring the entrenched feelings behind a squinting glance on a sour face as I might be with a girl fighting a robot. The spark of an idea for a piece might begin as easily from observations of a squabbling couple at a restaurant as spotting the colorful texture on a rusty pipe or recalling a fading dream while watching cream swirl in the morning coffee. The sparks then evolve into sketches and compositions which I investigate through an assortment of materials and techniques until a fresh story materializes. In other words: I’m all over the map.
